Safety and Insurance Information
Safety first
Maliau Basin is a remote and rugged tropical rainforest. Conditions can be challenging—with steep trails, slippery terrain, heavy rain, and limited facilities in some areas—so safety is always our top priority.
Before your trek begins, you will receive a briefing from trained staff about trail conditions, wildlife awareness, weather, and emergency procedures. Always follow the guidance of your guides and the hospitality team.
Medical preparedness
Please inform us in advance of any medical conditions, allergies, or dietary needs so we can support you appropriately. Bring your own personal medication and basic first-aid supplies. There is no full-service medical facility on site; evacuation to higher-level care may be required in serious situations.
Insurance requirements
All visitors are required to have:
- Travel and health insurance that covers medical treatment, evacuation, and repatriation while in Malaysia and during activities in the basin.
- Coverage for outdoor activities, including trekking in remote and rugged terrain.
Your own insurance should be arranged before arrival and be valid for the full duration of your trip. Please carry proof of your insurance policy and emergency contacts at all times.
Emergency support
In the event of an emergency, your guides are trained to respond and coordinate with local support teams. However, response times may vary due to terrain and weather conditions. Comprehensive insurance ensures that you have access to appropriate care without delay.
